Goals for the Depressed

My Goals for the day:

Take a shower

Blow dry hair

Get dressed into clothes that are not PJs

Talk to someone other than boyfriend

Step outside and breathe fresh air

Do a sit up, not just getting up from a laying down position, an actual crunch. Do another one if that didn’t kill you

Don’t eat out of boredom

Use your phone for calling or texting only, no game playing

No napping, you are not actually in need of more sleep

I’ve been in a complete funk the last few days so I made myself this list. One of the things I’ve learned about myself when I’m in a really bad place mentally is that I have to keep things very basic. Even the smallest task takes effort because when there is zero motivation everything feels overwhelming. I actually did most of my list and added finding a new project.

For me, working creatively with my hands is very therapeutic. So off we went to the craft store to find a new project I could work on. As I mentioned in my post Dreaming of Mad Skills I wanted to learn how to crochet because I loved the idea of making usable items I could give away as gifts. Now I’m not one for formal training or classes. I also don’t have a lot of money to throw away on a project I may only be excited about for a few weeks and then be done. The best and cheapest way to learn a new skill is to visit the kids aisles. I love their all in one craft projects. They are easy to follow and they give you everything you need to succeed at a much lower cost than the projects for adults. Today I found this:photo 1 (1)

I’ve never learned to crochet or knit, in fact I don’t really know the difference (I hope that didn’t offend anyone). So here is my new creative therapeutic project. Hopefully, this will be the reset my depressed brain needs to get out of the negative thoughts and back to functioning like a normal person, back to writing and my blogging 101 course (yep that’s still happening, I think I’m at a D- now).
